The Guild is delighted to announce that early-career African researchers affiliated with the Africa-Europe Clusters of Research Excellence (CoRE) are now eligible to apply for the Early-Career Research Fellowships programme, launched by the African Research Universities Alliance (ARUA) in July 2025 with support from the Mastercard Foundation and the Carnegie Corporation of New York.
In July 2025, ARUA, with support from the Mastercard Foundation and the Carnegie Corporation of New York, launched the Early-Career Research Fellowships programme. Initially designed to support emerging scholars across ARUA institutions, the programme has now been extended to include researchers affiliated with the Africa-Europe Clusters of Research Excellence (CoRE) initiative.
As a result, early-career researchers from African universities affiliated with one or more of the twenty-one Africa-Europe CoREs are eligible to apply to work on conduct globally competitive research aligned with CoRE collaborative research agendas. Moreover, ARUA universities connected to the CoREs can also serve as host institutions for fellows.
The programme is open for applications which can be submitted on a rolling basis. It will support up to 42 early-career researchers, with a number of fellowships already awarded funding and in implementation. Each fellowship will span six months, running between July 2025 and June 2026.
