Welcome
The Ghent Africa Platform (GAP) is an umbrella organisation of several, sometimes very diverse, ‘actors' belonging to the Ghent University Association (AUGent), which focus on the African continent (and/or on the African Diaspora). Currently, GAP brings together individual researchers (only AUGent staff), departments, journals (e.g. Afrika Focus), as well as associations (e.g. the Africa-Association of Ghent University (AVRUG), research groups (e.g. the Conflict Research Group) and projects (e.g. Dadobat).
GAP as a platform combines the activities of all of these actors: it offers a forum within which they can intensify mutual contacts, get to know and discuss their collective, interdisciplinary interests and possibly turn this into joint research, publications and/or the implementation of these within the scope of development aid. This clustering does not only have an internal and strengthening component, but also an external and ‘promotional’ one, namely making public the Africa-expertise at the Ghent University Association and rendering it more approachable for outsiders.
